Beginning the College Scholarship Search

Are you anxious about going away to college? Or worse yet, worried about how your are going to finance your college education? If you have worries such as these, you are not alone. But, the best thing to do is to take action.

A college education is very expensive. Colleges and Universities offers higher payments on every course that one may wish to take. The average cost of a college education nowadays is around $20,000.00 a year. That amount is too high for most high school grads especially if their parents can't help.

Many parents opt to save with a bank college fund to be used for their children when they enter college. Some invest in educational plans to surpass the heavy burden they might incur later on. Good for those who have prepared for the a college education of their children but how about those who have not? Can their child still go to college even if they lack finances? By all means yes.

That is why scholarships and grants are available. There are many college scholarships that are being offered in different universities and colleges. They vary according to the beneficiarys capabilities. College scholarships may be in the form of academic scholarship, athletic scholarships and many others. There are also college scholarships that are funded by the government. In some cases, prominent and rich people fund scholarship grants offered to various college students.

Knowing those facts, one can definitely say that obtaining a scholarship or grant can't be too difficult. However the truth is finding college scholarship or grants is very time consuming and requires great effort.

Here are some tips on how to find college scholarships that best suit your child:

1) Ask the academic guidance counsellor. The school where you enroll your child in High School is sure to have a list of scholarships and grants. You may ask for it and compare the grants that are offered according to the capability and the needs of your child. This is the surest way to find a college scholarship or grant for your child.

2) Universities and Colleges offer special scholarship for academic excellence and athletics. This is one way to search for your childs college scholarship. The Universities and Colleges that offer this may require your childs effort academically (if awarded academic scholarship) and effort in athletics while maintaining a ceiling grade (if awarded athletics scholarship). There are also financial aids given to a child if he intends to join a club or organization in the University or College that he intends to join. One example of the clubs is a theatre arts club.

3) The internet is the widest and the biggest tool you may use in order to find a scholarship for your child. There are lists of scholarships that you may find on the internet. This scholarship may be funded by people or private organization who aims to support deserving students in their college education.

4) The most scholarships or grants that can be trusted are those offered by the government. There are government agencies that offer college scholarships and grants but limit the course a student may take. One advantage of having a government scholarship is the job that waits after your child finishes college. That is because, most of the time, the government is the one that looks for the students job after his schooling. Sometimes that is included in the scholarship grant contract.

These are the four major places where you may find a scholarship that best suits your childs ability and needs. Scholarships are a great help not just on the part of the parent but also on the child.

Figuring out Channel 4's The Doomsday Code (without freaking out too much!)

Channel 4 did another of the medias hatchet jobs on the Bible (I eagerly await their first demolition of the Koran) with Tony Robinson fulminating on the evils of end-timers in his two hour documentary The Doomsday Code. Ghostly voices quoted from apocalyptic parts of the Bible, notably Daniel and Revelation, while weird demonic looking beings jerked too and fro.

Evangelical preachers from America (mainly) were given a platform and then made to look ridiculous (not a single Brit amongst them why dont they ever talk to local British Christians on these programmes?). A few charges made against the evangelicals were that they are responsible for

The State of Israel (a bad thing by the way)
The absence of peace and love in the Middle East
Global warming
Poverty and Aids in Africa.

In conclusion Robinson made the remarkable discovery that the end time scenario is all a terrible mistake because the writer of Revelation (not John) was a refugee from the destruction of the Temple writing a coded attack on the Emperor Nero (odd that Nero died in 68AD and the Temple was destroyed in 70AD). He was boating across the Med and got holed up on Patmos where he ate local magic mushrooms and went on a trip which produced the Revelation.

As an evangelical Christian who believes we are living in the last days I tried not to get too worked up about it, but thought I might jot down my thoughts on some of the more outrageous errors Tony Robinson managed to make.

1. Israel exists because of end time Christians causing it come into being to fulfil prophecies.

Actually there were Christians (not mentioned by Robinson) who did believe and pray and work for the return of the Jewish people to Israel before the event Lord Shaftesbury, William Hechler, Lord Balfour and others. But there were other reasons (not given in the programme). For example:

Jewish pioneers returning to the barren land of Palestine under the Turks and draining the swamps, planting trees and making the land productive after centuries of neglect (what a wicked thing to do!) Anti-Semitism in Europe causing Jews to look for their own bit of space where they would not be picked on because of being Jewish.

A UN Declaration in 1948 backed by such rabidly Christian evangelical powers as the Soviet Union under Stalin which brought into being the State of Israel (on a fraction of the land initially promised by the Balfour Declaration).

Incredible hard work and enterprise of Israels citizens creating a viable modern state despite constant efforts of their enemies to wipe them out.

2. There is no peace between Israel and the Arab world because evangelical Christians are preventing it from happening in order to push the world towards Armageddon.

Why according to Robinson they are even supporting that abomination of a Wall and trying to rebuild a third temple where the Dome of the Rock now stands. Now there are Christians in America who believe we should support the rebuilding of the Temple, I admit. As I see it they have missed a big point because they also believe the Temple will be defiled by Antichrist so in that case it is a bit more than pouring money down the drain.

What got a bit missed in the programme was anything about

Arab invasions aimed at the destruction of Israel in 1948, 1967, 1973.

Palestinian terror organisations sending human bombs to blow up themselves and as many Israelis as possible with the promise of 72 virgins in paradise if they succeed (come to think of it that could have been worth a mention within the issue of the evils of fundamentalism couldnt it?) The fact that both Bill Clinton and George W Bush support in principle the idea of land for peace. Clintons last fling on this one was not stopped by evil Christian fundamentalists tearing up the script, but by Arafat rejecting Baraks offer of the Temple Mount and half of Jerusalem at Camp David in 2000 and reverting to type by launching the second Intifada. Bush s support for the Road Map potentially gives more land to the Palestinians than Clinton proposed under Camp David.

The fact that when Israel withdrew from Lebanon and Gaza the vacuum was filled with Hezbollah and Hamas both of whom believe in fundamental Islam and think the best way to run the territory under their control is to use it to fire rockets at Israel.

The fact that Hamas rejects Israels right to exist and aims at destroying the Jewish state. Hezbollahs hero chief Nasrullah also wants to destroy the entire Jewish people (said so in Beirut in 2002).

Perhaps I am a bit nave but I would have thought some of these issues might be a teeny weeny bit relevant to the fact that all is not sweetness and light in the Middle East. But of course you are not allowed to criticise Muslims in the media any more so I suppose you just have to take it all out on the Jews and the Christians. All in the cause of justice and even handedness.

3. Its the fault of the end-timers in the US that the world cant solve the environmental problem.

Americans consume 25% of the worlds energy we are constantly reminded. It is because of end-timers in America that the world cant get an agreement on the burning of fossil fuels which will save the planet. Come to think of it dont Europeans use up a few fossil fuels? Take a trip round Londons M25 or the Paris Priphrique if you dont believe me. Of course you cant mention Chinas rapid and uncontrolled industrialisation because they are Communists and therefore not end-timers.

Actually it is pretty obvious that the world system based on consumption of fossil fuels is going to crash whatever your viewpoint. I have written a book called The House built on the Sand on this subject available for 5 including postage. If you want to save the planet there is a simple way to do it.

Ban the use of private cars.

Ban air travel for pleasure trips.

This way you would stop pollution of the environment and dependency on Middle East oil which would also solve the Islamic problem overnight.

But it wont happen, not just because of America but because the world is not run by the most far sighted people. So we are on the road to ruin.

Sorry. But not entirely my fault or that of those who believe we are living in the end times.

The end-timers dont like the UN which is the only hope of solving problems of wars and human rights.

Like it has done in its forthright condemnation of human rights abuses in China, North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Or its magnificent efforts to stop the slaughter in Sudan. Or its stern rebuke to Zimbabwe for the oppression of its citizens.

Do me a favour Tony Robinson. I wont even bother to spell out why the UN is such a den of hypocrisy, but just ask why its secretary Kofi Annan sanctioned and attended a Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in December 2005 at UN headquarters with a large map of Palestine, with Israel literally wiped off the map, featuring prominently in the festivities? Why there are endless resolutions against Israel but nothing about the suppression of human rights and freedom of religion (especially for Christians) across most of the Middle East?

The end-timers are responsible for poverty and Aids in Africa.

Robinson took a trip to Uganda where he was appalled to find preachers telling people we are living in the end times which, he claimed, made them fatalistic and drop out of school and (amazingly) fornicate so much that they spread Aids by not using condoms. Uganda seems to be uniquely a place to be liberated from this influence because it has an evangelical Christian president and gets help from American Christians.

Actually Uganda is by African standards a moderate success story. It has pulled itself out of the abyss left behind by the tyranny and slaughter of Idi Amin (not an evangelical Christian by the way after being deposed he sought asylum in Saudi Arabia which may tell you something of his religious persuasion). It has its problems of course, one of which is fanatical cults which have led to tragic suicides and the horrible Lords Resistance Army which has nothing to do with Christian belief or practice as a brief reading of the Sermon on the Mount will soon tell you.

There are some other African countries Robinson could have shown on his programme, like Zimbabwe, potentially one of the most fertile and productive countries on the continent, now being wrecked by a mad Marxist. Or Sudan where black African Christians and Muslims are slaughtered and enslaved by racist Arab Muslims. Correction. He could not have shown these countries on TV because he would not have been let in to make his film. Nuff said.

Regarding Aids and condoms, evangelical Christians believe that sexual abstinence outside of marriage and faithfulness inside of marriage is the way to avoid all sexually transmitted diseases. This outrageous opinion offends all right thinking people in the western media who argue that having sex with as many partners (of the opposite sex or the same sex or both) but using a condom is the best way to avoid spreading STDs.

Rapture, tribulation, Antichrist and Armageddon.

Robinson mocked evangelical beliefs on this subject with the help of a lady vicar from America who he took as the ultimate authority on this subject.

What is interesting however is that even a casual look at the average newspaper reveals a strong degree of fear and foreboding that we are heading for disaster because of:

Violence everywhere and the collapse of cohesion and morality in society Environmental problems / global warming threatening the future of the planet Fears about energy sources running down causing the system to crash The clash of Islam and the West causing a conflict in which weapons of mass destruction could be used The Middle East conflict dragging the world into a potentially catastrophic crisis Abuse of power causing poverty, corruption and tyranny

You dont need much imagination to see that all these things could come together in a global crisis which would bring about a surrender of freedom in order to save the planet with some kind of world government taking over.

That is what the end time Bible view says will happen with power being given to the Beast (antichrist) of Revelation.

All these things are prophesied in the end time passages of the Bible in both Old and New Testaments. They are not happening because a few evangelicals in America are orchestrating them, but because human beings have failed to care for the earth as commanded by God in Genesis 1 and have disregarded His commandments and the salvation He offers us through the Messiah Jesus. The Bible does prophesy signs of this event, some of the main ones which are as follows:

1. There will be an increase in wars, famines, plagues and earthquakes leading to a time of great trouble on the earth. Luke 21.10-11

2. The earth will be full of violence as in the days of Noah and many people will be afraid of what is going to happen. Luke 17.26-27, Luke 21.25-6, Genesis 6.11.

3. There will be great sexual immorality as in the days of Lot (Sodom and Gomorrah) causing a breakdown of family life and disease. Luke 17.28-8, Matthew 24.12, Romans 1.24-27, 2 Timothy 3.1-9

4. There will be many false cults bringing religious confusion while organised religion will form a union known as Babylon which will persecute true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Matthew 24.5, 24.23-27, Revelation 17.1-6

5. There will be an apostasy in the church with false teachers denying the truth of the Bible, especially the divinity of the Lord Jesus and the power of His shed blood to save us from our sins. Matthew 24.10-11, 2 Timothy 4.2-5, 2 Peter 2, 1 John 2.18-23

6. The Jewish people will return to Israel and Jerusalem will be a source of conflict involving all nations of the world. Ezekiel 36-9, Zechariah 12-14, Luke 21.20-24, Revelation 16.16

7. There will be widespread pollution of the earth. Isaiah 24, Revelation 8.6-11

8. There will be an increase in technology and travel helping to bring the world together into a one world economic and political system. Daniel 12.4, Revelation 13.

9. A world leader will emerge, known as the beast or Antichrist, who will take control of this system. Daniel 7, 2 Thessalonians 2, Revelation 13, Revelation 17.

10. The message of the Gospel will reach all nations despite opposition and persecution. Matthew 24.9-14, Matthew 28.18-20.

It is not only in Revelation that these things are spoken of but throughout the Bible. Revelation sums them up and is anything but the product of a drug induced hallucination. It is a well ordered and amazing book whose symbols make perfect sense in the light of the interpretation given within the book itself or in relation to other passages in the Bible, mainly in the Hebrew prophets. Jewish Christian writer Arnold Fruchtenbaum in his book Footsteps of the Messiah says there are over 500 references or allusions to the Old Testament in Revelation. Early church leaders (who were much closer to the event than modern liberal theologians) Polycarp, Irenaeus and Eusebius, all testify to the Apostle John as its author during the persecutions of the Roman Emperor Domitian in about 95AD. Polycarp who passed this information on to Irenaeus was a disciple of John. I have written an article When was Revelation written? giving further information on this subject.

According to the New Testament the day will come when believers will be separated from unbelievers (the Rapture) and the Lord Jesus will return in person at a time of unique trouble (the tribulation) on the face of the earth to save the world from destruction. He will judge the world righteously. He will bring in the Millennium in which He will reign on earth from Jerusalem bringing peace and justice to the Middle East and to the whole earth. However far fetched and scary it may sound to Tony Robinson it is going to happen. Better to look in to what the Bible actually does say than rely on sensation seeking TV promoters who always have an agenda to undermine it.

Tony Pearce began Light for the Last Days in 1988 when he was working as a school teacher in north London and wrote a few articles about Bible prophecy which he circulated to his friends. It has now become a regular magazine appearing four times a year and distributed world wide. The website http://www.lightforthelastdays.co.uk contains past and present articles from the magazine.Cristy Blog1795

Get Romantic With Tea

When it comes to romance, many set the mood with a glass of pinot noir, or a bubbly flute of champagne. Don't forget that "tea for two" can also brew romance, if you pay mind to the presentation.

Tea can be poured in a porcelain mug, a metal goblet or a shallow saucer. Some like to gulp it down, others swish and slurp, while some take the time to delicately sip their tea from fine china cups placed atop dainty saucers. The likes and dislikes of tea drinkers may vary, but tea accessories are becoming a big part of the tea-making exercise.

Making a great cuppa means starting with the basics. The kettle is where every fine brew begins. Some people have boiling water for years in the same metal kettles. Others enjoy the tea of generations in their inherited kettles. These people have been using the same kettle for years and are quite content with the results.

If you're not so lucky, it's time to seek out a kettle to brew your perfect tea. When shopping for a kettle, ensure that the lid fits tightly. If the lid is loose, there is the risk of hot water blowing into your face. Ensure that the handle won't get hot, and that it is securely fastened to the body of the kettle. The size of the kettle is equally important. If you are only going to brew one or two cups at a time, don't buy a big kettle.

The teapot is another very important accessory, and great care must be taken in choosing the right one. A two- or four-cup porcelain teapot is perfect for black teas. Green or oolong teas should be brewed in a Japanese or Chinese teapot. Herbal infusions are best suited to clear glass teapots.

When choosing your new teapot, be sure that it has a tight-fitting lid, balanced proportions, a smooth and polished surface and a spout that doesn't leak. Nothing spoils the mood like a leaky teapot.

The tea infuser is another must-have accessory for true tea lovers. The most common form is the wire mesh style, but there are also ball infusers, infuser presses and traditional bamboo infusers available. An ideal infuser should fit the entire mug or extend deeply into the teapot.

Those who truly love their tea or are a tad finicky about their brew might also have a measuring teaspoon, thermometer, digital timer, tightly sealed storage containers, a delicate tea cozy and elegant cups and saucers. The tea tray is the last link in the chain of tea accessories, and the one that holds it all together.

When romance is brewing, pour some tea for two, and dazzle your love with all the right accessories.

10 Reasons to buy the Blackberry 8100 Pearl

This major update to the popular 7105t brings the Blackberry experience to a whole new level. Here are 10 reasons to buy the RIM Blackberry Pearl.

1. The Camera.

The Blackberry Pearl includes a 1.3-megapixel camera that features an LED flash, 5 times zoom and white balance controls. This is the first Blackberry to include a camera, and whilst at 1.3 Megapixel it is not as advanced as others on the market, it takes a great little photo and is a long overdue addition to the Blackberry.

2. MP3 Player.

This model includes other consumer features including an Mp3. The Blackberry music player supports playback of your tunes in MP3, AAC, AAC+, and eAAC+ formats. The handheld is also compatible with Java application and game downloads. You can create playlists as folders and shuffle and repeat songs within a certain folder. It also displays some track information, such as title, artist, and album art if available.

3. Expandable Memory.

Now that you can listen to your mp3s on the go with your Blackberry you are going to need somewhere to store all your favourite songs, not just a few of them. The blackberry Pearl also sports a memory card slot.

This is the first blackberry to include this feature.

4. Size and Design.

The Blackberry Pearl is sleek and stylish unlike typical business smartphones. At a form size of 4.2 by 2.0 by 0.5 inches; 3.1 ounces, the Pearl fits easily into a pocket or handbag, and unlike previous Blackberry models it does not look over-sized and silly when making calls. The Pearl is smaller than the Treo and Sidekick smartphones. It has a glossy black and chrome finish and will appeal to business users and general consumers alike.

5. The Screen.

The Blackberry Pearl sports a 2.25-inch TFT screen that displays 65,000 colors at a 240x260-pixel resolution. The screen is super sharp, clear and is reminiscent of a miniature plasma screen television. It is great for viewing emails and web browsing. Also included is light-sensing technology so the Pearl will adjust its brightness based on the conditions you are in.

6. The Pearl.

Gone is the classic Blackberry trackwheel. This phone features a trackball below the screen (The Pearl). The Pearl is easy to use and allows for 4 way scrolling. Its sensitivity can be adjusted and when pushed in, it acts as a select button. Whilst Blackberry users who are used to the trackwheel might initially experience some difficulties adapting to the Pearl it is very easy to adapt to. New Blackberry users will quickly take to it.

7. Maps

The Pearl is also the first Blackberry to come with a map application. Blackberry Maps provides local maps and allows you to get text-based driving directions straight to your Blackberry.

8. Email.

This is the feature that made the Blackberry so popular from the beginning. You can sync with your company's server with support for Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Domino, or Novell GroupWise to deliver corporate e-mail in real time (Push email).

You can also support up to 10 POP3 or IMAP4 e-mail accounts.

The email set up wizard is very quick and simple to use.

9. Voice Dialling.

The Blackberry Pearl now offers voice dialling so you can set up voice commands for your contacts and use them to dial numbers.

10. Use it with a Mac.

The Blackberry Pearl is the most stylish smartphone on the market, so it makes sense to want to use it with the most stylish computers on the market. This can be done using a program called Pocketmac. Pocketmac is the first program to allow Mac users to sync their crucial data between their Blackberry device and Entourage, Address Book, iCal, Now Contact, Now Up-To-Date, and even Stickies.

Do You Need Acne Scar Removal or Treatment?

If you have acne scars from breakouts that you had in the past, there are ways to help remove them. Or, you just might have some pimples now that are leaving scars. Well, there is help. Know what some of your options are for treatment, and understand that acne scar removal is possible even with persistent acne woes and scarring.

Now a days the treatment for removing scars are up to date and modern. There are all kinds of treatments, but only a qualified dermatologist can help you get those scars off of your face or body, so you can start feeling confident about how you look. Depending on the type of acne that youve had, or are experiencing now, your doctor will determine the routine of acne scar removal that you need.

Most acne scar treatments require clear skin before treatment begins, so this is the first issue that must be addressed. If you havent done it already, make an appointment with your dermatologist to get started. Every person must be evaluated individually and treated on a case-by-case basis, and what works for one may not work for another

Some of the different ways that this is done can range from medication, surgery, and light or laser therapy. Medications like Tetracycline are antibiotics that will clear up acne by stopping infection, and the skin heals naturally.

Another type of medication that helps with acne scar removal is called Accutane. It has high doses of Vitamin A that eliminate oils from the skin, and cuts down on the scarring by eliminating infection. There are potential side effects of the antibiotics and Accutane. After a while you can develop immunity to the antibiotics, or even become very allergic to the medications.

Do not take Accutane if you are thinking of becoming pregnant or are pregnant. Only a dermatologist should prescribe this type of acne scar removal.

Light or laser therapy is great for removing scars that are moderate or severe too. Youll know that your doctor is recommending these types of acne scar removal treatments when Blue or Red Light Therapy is discussed.

Fotofacials are another type that is often used too. It rids your skin of scars by using pulsating frequencies of lights or lasers. Scars are either totally removed, or they are faded to the point that a good makeup will hide the remaining evidence. The best thing about it is that results are sometimes better with this type of acne scar removal treatment.

Most acne scar treatments are not covered by health insurance plans, and can be quite costly if more than a couple of treatments are needed, which is the case in more instances than not. Less expensive acne scar treatments can always be tried first, especially if the scars are not too severe. Check with your dermatologists office for prices of various procedures recommended, and also check online for more in depth information on acne scar treatments

Its important too that medications dont have to be used for an extended period, and its not as dangerous. Acne scar removal is possible, and all you have to do is to make an appointment, and start on the way to healing your scars on your body, and your outlook on you.

TV Shows For Backpackers

Not many television shows are produced with backpackers in mind. Still, there are some tv shows that can be appreciated especially by backpackers. They may even contain some useful lessons. Here are some examples of the best.

The Classic National Geographic Specials

Specials produced by the National Geographic Society are great viewing when you want to get motivated for new backpacking trips. The older ones are some of the best for this, like the thirty-year-old episode where four guys built a raft and floated down the Yukon River. You can find many of these on DVD now in public libraries, as well as in some video rental stores. You can se newer episodes on the National Geographic Network and occasionally on PBS.

Les Stroud's Survivorman

This television program is all about wilderness survival. You'll find it on the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel, and possibly others. It's about one man against the elements. The man in this case is Les Stroud, who is put in various environments to survive for seven days while filming himself.

One great feature of Survivorman is that each show has a "theme." The Canadian arctic episode, for example, has Stroud left with a broken-down snowmobile. He cannibalizes this various useful items, including the seat cushion, which he uses for a insulating sleeping pad. The Sonoran desert episode has him in the middle of a desert with a broken dirt bike, and he uses wires from this to weave a blanket of grass.

The show is creative and entertaining, but is a survival program useful for backpackers? I think so. There are specific techniques of survival that Stroud shows us and, more importantly, the inspiration the show provides. Survivorman lets you know that you can survive - and it gets you in the habit of thinking about how to use everything around you. This is knowledge that not only makes the wilderness more interesting, but could also save your life someday.

I Shouldn't Be Alive

It's a pure survival story show - all true stories of people that have survived some of the most horrible circumstances in every type of wilderness. In one episode the story is told of a couple who were stranded for nine days in the middle of winter in the Sierra Nevadas - with a baby. They really shouldn't be alive, but they are.

This is the point of watching a show like this. It is inspiring. Watch the episode where the man crashes his plane in the African desert and breaks his spine, then faces killer elephants, ants, thorns, hyenas and more. If you are ever lost in the wilderness, just recall a few of these shows and you'll know that people have survived worse situations than yours. You won't give up hope too easily.

The various "reality shows," like survivor, are mostly drama and more about political survival than wilderness experience, but there are other things for backpackers to watch on television. These include movies that get us motivated, like the "White Wolf," series. Movies like these may not be full of great acting, but they always put teenage hikers in beautiful setting that make us want to get the pack out and start making plans.

One final recomendation. If you can catch it on television or rent it from the video store, watch "The Edge," with Anthony Hopkins. It is an inspirational survival story for starters. It also has some of the most beautiful scenery you'll see in a movie. You'll want to start planning a trip to the Canadian Rockies before the movie is even over. This one is my kind of backpacker television.

Cisco CCNP Certification Exam Tutorial: Making The Most Of Cisco's CCNP Program Changes

As you probably know by now, Cisco's making some sweeping changes in their Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) program. Two longtime exams are being retired at the end of the year, two are being revised, and two new exams will be making their debut in late 2006.

If you're currently working on the CCNP or even thinking about it, the one thing you must NOT do is postpone your studies. On occasion, some certification exam candidates postpone their studies when they hear of an exam change. Cisco has announced these CCNP changes well ahead of time, and you've got plenty of time to pass some CCNP exams by the end of the year - and they still count toward the CCNP!

Let's take an exam-by-exam look at the current and future CCNP programs.

The BSCI exam is being updated, with the current exam being retired at the end of 2006.

The BCMSN exam is being updated, with the current exam being retired at the end of 2006.

The BCRAN exam is being retired at the end of 2006, and it will be replaced by the Implementing Secure Converged Wide Area Networks (642-825) exam.

The CIT exam is being retired at the end of 2006, and it will be replaced by the Optimizing Converged Cisco Networks (642-845) exam.

Any CCNP certification exam you take by the end of 2006 does count toward your CCNP, so there is no reason to postpone your studies. You never get anywhere by waiting!

The one thing you can't do is take the current exam version and then take the new one and have both count toward the CCNP. The CCNP has a three-exam path and a four-exam path, and here are the four exam qualifications you must fulfill to become a CCNP with the four-exam path:

Current BSCI (642-801) or Revised BSCI (642-901)

Current BCMSN (642-811) or Revised BCMSN (642-812)

Current BCRAN (642-821) or New ISCW (642-825)

Current CIT (642-831) or New ONT (642-845)

If your choose the three-exam path, just replace the first two exams shown above with the current Composite exam (642-891) or revised Composite exam (642-892). Cisco expects to release the revised Composite exam in November 2006.

Whether you choose to finish your CCNP in 2006, or start now and finish in 2007, hit those books! Never let exam version changes slow your studies - the only way to progress is to move forward!

Online Dating: How To Play It Smart To Attract More Women

Millions are doing it. 75% in England. 57% in the United States. Were busy. We search for books, toys, gifts, investment data and gossip online. So why not go online in search of women?

Its effective, time-efficient and casts a far wider net than you could ever do trawling bars, bookstores and yoga classes one at a time.

And the best part is women on dating sites are there because they want to meet guys. Theyre busy just like you. Teachers who dont meet men over 12 years of age on a daily basis. Nurses whose only male contact are invalids. Women in fashion or retail who meet nothing but other women and gay men. And of course, a smorgasbord of single mothers who cant run around at night but who are looking for men to have some fun in their lives, date or marry. These women are dedicated.

You cant say that that about that hottie youre dying to approach in the office down the hallway. Or that slinky beauty youve just spotted at Starbucks.

Some men are still shy or embarrassed about online dating. Get over it.

From a business point of view its a hungry market and its ravenous for you.

If you play it smart.

And playing it smart means standing out from the boring, repetitive, colorless profiles that men put up one after another.

You must approach dating in the online age with a combination of both ancient socio-biological wisdom about triggering attraction in women, and the media savvy of modern communications science in a Blink! world.

Most men throw up their facts on their profiles. But to get outstanding results, you have to approach online dating the same way you would if you were seeking success in the financial markets or your own career. Its about deploying expertise and being professional about your efforts.

And to be a pro, you must master four important elements.:

1) How to read a womans profile for key signifiers -- hidden packets of information that contain the key to her heart and mind (and the rest of her body, too).

2) How to seed your profile with your own key signifiers that suggest

* An easy, strong masculinity
* Sensual promise without sexual creepiness
* Gentle humor
* Brass balls and
* The subtle, unstated promise a more exciting life than she has now.

3) How to test your profile to daily increase your magnetizing electric contrasts. Your electric contrasts are there to tantalize women reading your profile, disallowing them to pigeonhole you and just move on. Most men project a limited vision of themselves and wonder why they never get responses.

Ask any woman most mens profiles leave them cold and uninspired.

But master these tactics, and you will have more dates than nights to meet them. The electricity you can create with a well thought out profile will be greeted not only with open arms, but with relief!

Calcium for Health, Weight Loss and Osteoporosis

Calcium is a mineral essential to all stages of life, age groups, and gender.

99% of the bodys calcium is stored in the bones and teeth. The remainder circulates in the blood for use by the muscles and nervous system. It is important to note that the body does not make its own calcium; it is obtained and absorbed from the foods in your diet. This will include supplements if you are taking them.

Calcium concentration must be kept constant, and if not enough is taken in to the body, calcium will be withdrawn from the store sites in your bones. The bones will gradually become less dense, losing some of their strength, which can then lead to osteoporosis (brittle, porous bones). Withdrawing calcium from the bones is the bodys way of keeping blood levels constant.

Men and women will naturally lose calcium from their bones as they age, but the rate of loss is much higher in women. Women who are experiencing menopause, will have a faster loss of calcium from their bones. A good store of calcium in the bones at the menopause stage of life, will assist a woman in keeping osteoporosis at bay.

A calcium rich diet for the first 30 to 40 years of your life is essential for building-up your calcium stores. This will put you in a good position for fighting off bone disease in later life.

Calcium is essential to the body for many functions including; maintaining healthy bones and teeth; muscle contraction, including heart beat regulation; maintaining a healthy nervous system; regulating blood pressure (aiding blood clotting); the fight against osteoporosis. Studies have shown that diets rich in calcium can help the body to manage fat cells by aiding the mechanisms that store fat in the body. The result can help with weight loss. Including foods rich in calcium can help create a feeling of fullness, which can help to prevent snacking in-between meals.

Factors that influence calcium absorption

Vitamin D: Obtained from the sun on our skin, and is prevalent in food items such as canned salmon, eggs, butter and margarine. Calcium can not function in the body without Vitamin D. This vitamin helps to regulate the absorption of calcium from the food we ingest.

Exercise: Weight bearing exercise is needed for optimal absorption of calcium into the bones. This can include, walking, aerobics, running, dancing, cycling, gardening, weights or even pushing a pram.

Protein: A high protein intake reduces calcium absorption. Recent studies indicate that while dairy products are a good source of calcium, their high protein content can interfere with the bodys ability to use the calcium ingested. It is best to obtain calcium from a varied diet, which includes non-dairy sources such as soybeans, almonds and salmon.

Hormones: Menopause sees a decline in oestrogen levels, resulting in a decline in the bodys ability to absorb calcium from your diet. The adolescence (teens) stage of life sees less calcium being absorbed due to the changes in hormone levels for both males and females.

Weight: Extreme thinness, (low body fat levels) or following very restricted diets will affect calcium absorption, and see withdrawal from the bones as the body struggles to maintain a constant level of calcium in the blood. This can lead to osteoporosis in later life, as the skeleton has not been given a chance to become strong.

And: High levels of Caffeine, Salt, Alcohol or Smoking will all reduce the amount of calcium the body can absorb from the diet.

Signs of Deficiency

A mild calcium deficiency can lead to insomnia, brittle nails, muscle twitching, irritability, and palpitations. Severe deficiency affects the muscular system cramps, pains, numbness, stiffness, and depression. A deficiency of this degree can cause rickets in children. The most at risk are the elderly, those who avoid dairy products or other sources of calcium rich foods, those on high protein/high fibre diets, or when consuming large amounts of alcohol.

The Age of Blu-Ray

Do you remember how awesome it was when you upgraded from you old VHS tapes to DVDs? The picture was way clearer and the sound was amazing, right? Well another technology shift of even greater proportions is on the horizon in the home entertainment industry.

A standard DVD or DVD-R disc has about 4.7 GB of storage, but the new Blu-Ray discs have over 25 GB of storage on a single-layer disc and 50 GB on a dual-layer disc! And all that extra space, over 10 times more than a regular DVD, does not go to waste. Movies in Blu-Ray format will have crystal clear, life-like High Definition picture and superb digital sound. This unprecedented high quality combined with a 1080p High-Definition TV will be like nothing you have ever seen before. Are you salivating yet?

The only thing that will stop you from running to your nearest Circuit City, Best Buy or Sony Style to pick up a Blu-Ray player and a couple movies to go with it (and if youre really ambitious, you can buy a Blu-Ray disc burner too) is the large and almost unwieldy price tag.

Today, a stand-alone Blu-Ray player will cost you around $1000, with each movie at about $50, meaning it would take a sizable chunk out of that portion of your bank account you allocate towards home entertainment. Now if you have a phone number annual salary that wont be a problem, but what about for the rest of us?

Well, just as with any new and emerging technology, the price will be very high at the outset, meaning that mostly techies and people who dont mind dishing out a few thousand bucks will buy it. But with time (maybe even in time for the 2006 holiday season), the price will drop until it becomes affordable. And for those of you who absolutely can not wait to get one of these awesome pieces of technology in your living room, you will be glad to hear that the new Sony Playstation 3 coming in November 2006 will come equipped with a Blu-Ray player. This next-gen console will cost around $600, a bargain for just the Blu-ray player.

The Playstation 3 will be the most powerful gaming machine ever released in terms of raw computing power. It features a new technology called a Cell chip, which works like 9 CPU microchips in one. This allows for blazing speeds and spectacular graphics, especially when it comes to running lots of programs simultaneously.

So, how do you obtain this tantalizing cinematic machine without overdrawing your checking account? My advice is to wait until the holiday season. The mainstream will have caught wind of the new Blu-Ray technology and it will become a holiday must-have. The price will inevitably be lower, and it will be your choice whether you want to go with a stand-alone player or a PS3.

If you wish to find out more about Blu-Ray players and what movies are available, check out http://blu-ray-site.com for more information. This is a technology that will awe and inspire, and it will forever change the home theater experience.

Are You Living the Fearless Life?

Are You Living The Fearless Life?

When people think about being fearless it usually conjures up images of mountain climbers on Everest, skydivers jumping out of airplanes, and race car drivers on the Nascar circuit. Most people think I could never do that.

The truth of the matter is this. Every person who ever scaled Everest, jumped out of an airplane or raced around a track at 200 miles an hour was scared to death! They were putting their lives on the line and there was no guarantee that they would return alive. The difference between them and us is simple. They faced the fear and didnt allow it to overwhelm their need for adventure, their need to go beyond their usual comfort zone.

In my role as coach to midlife women, I am constantly surprised at how many women undervalue the amount of courage it takes to live. One of my clients had a child was very ill, she nursed him through the worst part of it, and continued to do her job where the expectation was that no matter what, she had to be in on time and do her work. She did it because they needed the money to pay the medical bills. She felt there was no choice. When told how courageous it was of her to do this, she looked at me blankly and said what else could I do?

How many women take their heroic journeys and say what else could I do? Or, Who else was going to do it? As women, we underplay our strengths and shrug it off as a trade-off. For what? We carry the load. Men may feel they are out there creating the wealth, but today thats no longer the truth. More women than ever are in the workforce AND still doing all the other stuff they did before. Who has the harder job? In my opinion there is no contest.

Women have expectations about doing it all. We work, we take care of the children, we cook, we clean and we run all the errands. When the kids are sick, or our husband is having problems at work, we nurture them and we continue to run until we run on empty. We get tired, depressed, anxious and angry. And we wonder why it has to be that way.

Along the way, we lost the passion for living. When we were little girls we dreamed about what we would be when we were growing up. We played at being teachers, nurses, doctors, lawyers and mommies. We travelled the globe on our wall maps and listened to the music and thought about becoming a rock star. We pushed away the doubts and went to college sure that we could do anything, and then the dream started to fizzle.

We did well in school, or didnt, we found work that satisfied, or didnt, and we married happily, or didnt. And bit by bit, the dream that said you could do anything was gradually taken over by necessities. Money to pay the rent, children who needed special care, husbands who were never home because their job took them away for days on end. We found ourselves taking care of the daily grind and gradually, ever so gradually, the desire and passion for something different, for something more, dwindled to a whisper.

We are happy when we are with our family. Our children give us enormous pleasure (and pain); and our relationships over the years have deepened into friendships that are the backbone of our existence. But something is missing and we cant quite put our finger on it.

When we reach our forties, we start to feel that the dreams we once had are no longer possible. We give in to the quiet despair of midlife believing Is that All There Is and knowing in your heart that the answer is no.

What is it that stands in our way from living the life we used to believe was possible? I believe its Fear.

We live in a fear based world. Our culture breeds it in the daily dose of terror news. We are constantly bombarded by whats good for our health. People die from eating the wrong things. The latest was spinach. People die from being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We live in a world without proper health care and we ignore countries in the rest of the world because we have enough troubles of our own at home.

Is it any wonder that we dont want to deal with our own fears? Better the devil we know than the one we dont.

I was forty-three years old and I had been in a relationship for thirteen years. We had three children, including his daughter from a second marriage. It was not the easiest relationship to be in because we were both strong-willed and stubborn people. We fought on a regular basis but found mutual ground in the love our children.

On one occasion, our fighting reached a crescendo and I was ready to leave. As usual, it was all his fault. He had made my life impossible with his demands, his thoughtlessness and his constant need for attention. I had had enough.

In the midst of our screaming at each other he yelled You made the choices, not me. It stopped me in my tracks. The words stuck to my brain and resonated for hours afterwards. I hated to admit it, but he was right. It had been my choice to accept less than I wanted, to give more than I wanted to, to place myself in a secondary position so that I took care of everyone elses needs first. I wasnt even sure I knew what it was I needed at that moment, but I knew one thing.

I was scared to take responsibility for my own emotional happiness.

We keep ourselves in a state of fear! We all make choices. Some good, some bad, but they are choices. I didnt realize that for a very long time and wanted to blame over there for most of the unhappiness in my life. We all have to make decisions. Sometimes these decisions may seem like there is no choice, but there always is.

Now all of this may sound like youve heard it all before. You have. But the sad state of affairs is that most women dont take time for their own needs and make excuses for why they wont move ahead into a life of fulfilment.

We all have choices and if we dont choose the things that make us feel good, that inspire us to get out of bed each day, and celebrate the life we live, we only have one person to blame.

Living the Fearless life is not a choice. Living the Fearless life means facing the fears that stop you in your tracks, that cause you to make excuses about why you cant do something, or refuse to make the changes that will mean feeling more fulfilled and happier with your life.

Think about this. In 2006, it is expected that women in their fifties will live until they are in their mid-eighties if their health is good. Thats thirty more years of living!! You might have another forty or more. How exciting is that.

Isnt it about time you gave yourself what you need? What you want? What will make you happy? If you dont know what that is, find help to unearth the part of you that was buried in the landslide called living the unfulfilled life. Stop making excuses for not taking action.

I know its hard. I know there are a million reasons why you cant take care of yourself. There are as many excuses as there are stars in the sky, but you dont have to wait until they burn out. That will take millions of years and you dont have that long.

Thirty years is a long time to be doing something you dont want.

Thirty years is another lifetime of putting your own needs first and creating the life you want to live.

At the beginning of this article, I used the examples of Everest and skydiving. Facing our fears does not have to be so monumental. But we do have to face up to our fears each and every day. Its in the million details of our daily lives. The decisions we take in our jobs, our families and in our personal care.

My challenge to you is simple. Live the Fearless Life by facing the fears each day. Life is not about being Fearless, its about facing the fears and doing what makes us uncomfortable.

This is my first article. I put off writing it for weeks. Now that Ive done the outline, Ive got something to work with and Ill improve.

My fear is getting up and saying to you that you can do this. Im an expert on Fear. Ive lived with it from the earliest part of my life. But Ive refused to give in to it.

I was nine years old, living in an old Scottish tenement building that was built during the reign of Mary Queen of Scots. It was either haunted or I had an overly active imagination. One night I awoke to find a tall dark figure standing by the side of my bed. It looked huge and I could not make out any discerning features. It did not move and neither did I. I looked at it for a few minutes waiting for it to do something until I eventually closed my eyes and fell asleep once more. In the morning I asked everyone in our building if they had come to my bed the night before but no one did. To this day, I am convinced it was FEAR that came to visit. I lived with an abusive, alcoholic father and each day was spent in terror of doing something wrong.

We manifest what we most dread.

It took me a long time, but eventually I understood that living life fearlessly was not living a life without worry, but about facing the worries, the anxieties and the dread that comes with taking chances. You owe it to yourself to take the chance.

Stabilize The System By Removing Spyware

Spyware can kill the registry. Removing Spyware with anti Spyware may avert disaster. However, disaster can still strike if the Spyware is still in the registry. Clean the registry with Spyware removal like Microsoft free Spyware removal and free Spyware Adware removal programs to be safe.

Spyware is malicious software that can kill the registry. What does Spyware have to do with the windows registry? Well, everything and anything that happens on the computer is registered in the registry. The registry is an integral part of the operating system and whatever is added to the computer or removed from the computer is registered in the system registry. When a device such as any hardware is installed, the information pertaining to that hardware is recorded in the system registry. This information includes the kind of device it is and the name of the manufacturer as well.

When the device was installed and also when it was uninstalled is also recorded. If one needs to know what was installed in the PC and when they simply have to refer to the system registry for the information. However, when a device is uninstalled from the system the information is not removed completely from system. This information is not necessary and just contributes to slowing the system down. Therefore the registry along with the entire system must be cleaned of the Spyware, and useless information, by premium or free Spyware removal software.

Where Does Spyware Come In?

Spyware loads itself on to a system to collect personal data and secretly mail it to a web site or email address. This information is used for marketing and at many times criminal intent. Spyware operates secretly in the background while the computer is running, and can only be removed by Spyware removal programs. All the while the Spyware is gathering information from the system.

This Spyware is also stored in the system registry by the operating system. While the Spyware is operating, it is sending and receiving a lot of information over the Internet. This information is constantly updated in the registry by the operating system making the registry swell beyond proportions. As the registry grows the system slows and gradually begins to crawl.

What To Do When The System Slows?

When you discover the system has become slower than usual it is best to download and run some anti-virus utility or Spyware removal program. Though this software may remove the Spyware it will leave traces of the program in different parts of the registry. This then has to be cleaned with special free Spyware Adware removal software.

It is best to download free Adware Spyware removal programs or Microsoft free Spyware removal Software to take care of the problem instead of diving into the registry manually. That can cause more damage than good. Free yahoo Spyware removal software is good enough to get your system up and running again that too at a good speed. Spyware removal software also makes the system more stable and less prone to crashes.

America's Infatuation with Hollywood Stars

I am sure we all are infatuated with Hollywood stars. From the time of the birth of the movie capital of the world, Hollywood, we cannot take our eyes off these charming people. They can even be called the Royal Family of America if this is not too insolent. Unfortunately, the infatuation with Hollywood Stars grows into an obsession for some fans. These fans transform their homes into shrines to their favorite celebrity. Their lives become centered on just one idea the Hollywood Stars.

Hollywood is not trying to prevent this ugly situation either. In fact, Hollywood does everything it can to promote this fascination with Hollywood stars. Both young and old actors are subjected to this. Even the dead Hollywood stars cannot rest in peace because they are constantly the subject of gossip.

On the World-Wide-Web, you can find information on how to track a star or simply some gossips concerning the personal life of the Hollywood star (if the Hollywood star succeeds in having one at all). We may say that Internet nurtures this obsession in many people.

You can read on the net where a Hollywood star lives, where a Hollywood star goes shopping, which night club a Hollywood star visits, where a Hollywood star goes to church, where a Hollywood star is laid to rest!

The famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre sidewalk is a place where many Hollywood stars have eternalized their handprints and footprints in the cement. This is one of the obsessed fans favorite places for tourism.

Hollywood stars realize that they have become legends when they are invited to leave their footprint in the cement. Hollywood stars as Groucho Marx and John Wayne have preferred to represent their personalities by leaving a style mark. Such style marks are Groucho Marx's cigar and John Wayne's fist.

Tourist agencies offer tours around the Hollywood stars homes. I was frankly surprised when I heard that some Hollywood stars specialize in presenting scenes of celebrity scandals and deaths. If you wish, you can visit the house where Marilyn Monroe died, where Sharon Tate was murdered, and where O.J.Simpson was arrested.

I almost feel obliged to add that there are tourist agencies, which offer visits to graves of Hollywood stars. They give profound information how to find such notabilities as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Spencer Tracy or Gregory Peck.

If do not succeed to come across a real Hollywood star or you do not like the idea of visiting a grave, Hollywood offers wax museums for you. There next to each other are placed Clint Eastwood and Spider-Man!

Very attractive turn out to be the Hollywood stars of the 1940's, 50's and early 60's. This can be explained by the fact that these decades had been a more glamorized time and then the Hollywood stars were compared with royalties.

Hollywood was a completely different world in the past, Hollywood stars either were different. During the 1940's, 50's and early 60's the Hollywood stars were just a part of the studio system, signed up to the studios and protected by them. However, scandals were bursting even then. This was a romantic time. This was the time when the bad guys wore black hats and the good guys wore white hats. This was the time when the man stood up when the lady entered the room.

Prayers God Answers - The Prayer of Jabez

Bruce Wilkinson's book, The Prayer of Jabez, became a huge success. It became so successful that many people felt that there must be something wrong with it. But this prayer from 1 Chronicles 4:10 is a great prayer for one simple reason: God answered it. And we need to take another look at this simple, but effective, little prayer.

Oh, that You would bless me indeed," 1 Chronicles 4:10b

Many people feel that it's wrong for us to ask God to bless us, but they miss the point. The point is: God wants to bless us.

Psalm 67:1-2 says, "God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us, Selah. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations." When God blesses us He reveals to the entire earth just who He is. And God's salvation, His power, love, and mercy, are proclaimed when He blesses His people.

"...and enlarge my territory," 1 Chronicles 4:10c

Jesus' disciples got into an argument about who was going to be the greatest among them. Jesus knew that they were having this discussion so He confronted them about it. What's interesting is that He did NOT say to them: "You shouldn't want to be great." Instead He gave them specific instructions about HOW to be great.

In Luke 22:24-27 Jesus tells the disciples that the Gentiles believe being great means ruling over people, but that is not how they are to understand greatness. He says, "he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves." To be great, we must become greater servants. Our greatness is not determined by who we look down on or who works for us, but by the kinds of people we serve, the number of people we serve, and the way in which we serve them.

"...that Your hand would be with me," 1 Chronicles 4:10d

Most people spend their lives trying to figure out how little they can get by with. They want to get more for doing less.

Jabez knew that by asking God to help him serve more, he was asking God to help him do more than he could possibly accomplish on his own. He purposely asked God to put him in a position where he had to depend on God. As Michelangelo once said, "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."

"...and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain! 1 Chronicles 4:10e

Jesus taught His disciples to pray, "And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one," in Luke 11:4. Sin and evil are all around us and we need to be aware of our dependence on God to live a life that pleases Him in every area.

But a second aspect of this prayer becomes clear when we read that the name "Jabez" means pain. It was the name that his mother gave him because of the pain he caused her during birth. Jabez had spent his entire life, every time he was introduced to someone or whenever someone called his name, being reminded that he had brought pain into his mother's life.

We all have to pray for God to help us overcome the wrong beliefs that we have about ourselves. Whether it was our parents, teachers, or anyone else who said them, we all have beliefs about ourselves that simply aren't true. They are nothing more than what others have projected onto us because of what they were experiencing or what they believed.

God wants to bless us and help us become greater servants. In order to do that He wants us to depend on Him completely in every area of our lives. And He wants us to believe the truth about who we are. We are His children, He loves us, and He is with us every moment of our lives. He wants to do great things in our lives.

At the end of of this simple prayer in 1 Chronicles 4:10 we read, "So God granted him what he requested." When we pray this prayer that God answers, just like Jabez, our lives will never be the same.

Quick Tips for Permanent Weightloss

Many think that the battle to lose weight is always an up-hill struggle, but in reality it doesnt have to be. There are several small yet effective changes you can make in your diet and daily activities that are very easy to incorporate into your lifestyle. By just using a few of the following tips, you can be well on your way to taking it off ad keeping it off.

The first step is to target your eating habits. Here are a few things you can do to jump-start your permanent weight loss.

* Eat 6 smaller meals a day as opposed to 3 larger meals. This keeps your metabolism up and your belly full

* Substitute mayonnaise and mayonnaise-based dressings with condiments like mustard or extra virgin olive oil. EVOO tastes great in tuna fish and has a fraction of the saturated fat.

* Eliminate fried foods/fast food from your diet or eat very sparingly

* Keep junk food out of the house. Substitute fresh fruit and vegetables. If you dont keep junk in the house, youre less likely to cheat.

* Pay attention to portion sizes. Dividing your plate into 4 visual quarters and only eating 3 of those quarters is a good way to start. Another helpful tool is an all-natural supplement called Hoodia Gordonii. Its very easy to find Hoodia in patches and pill form.

The next step is to start incorporating an exercise routine youll stick with on a regular basis. It only takes 3 weeks (21 days) to form a habit, so if you can make the commitment to at least 3 weeks, its all down hill from there! Losing weight and exercise dont have to be boring.

* If you cant do one 30-minute sitting of cardio a day, try doing three 10 minute sessions instead (a short walk, or going up and down stairs would work)

* Get the whole family involved and take family walks after dinner. Youll be spending quality time with the ones you love and getting the health benefits of walking all at the same time.

* Doing simple chores around the home also burn calories. Washing your car, pulling weeds, and even vacuuming all count as calorie-burning activities

* Participate in physical activities with friends or children. Kicking a ball around, riding a bike, or roller-blading are all good examples. This will also give you a chance to get outside and enjoy fresh air.

Some planning also needs to be done in order for the weight to stay off. There are also some all-natural products you can use to help expedite your weight loss.

* Plan meals for the week in advance. This prevents you from making impulse buys or heading to the drive through, which 9 times out of ten is not good for you

* Hoodia Gordonii is an all-natural weight loss supplement made from a cactus plant that has been shown to help people watch their portion sizes. You should plan on taking this twice a day.

* Drinking green tea can also help. This contains EGCG, an antioxidant which has been proven to increase metabolism. Who knew it could be so easy!

* Plan to REWARD yourself with non-food items. Buying some new clothes or planning an outing with friends are just a couple of ways you can do this.

You can see from the above tips that permanent weight loss is not out of reach. By making and sticking with these small changes for at least 3 weeks, you will start to shed pounds and feel sexier in no time. Whether its cutting out fried foods, starting to take daily walks, or starting an all-natural supplement like Hoodia Gordonii to decrease cravings, taking the first steps to losing your excess weight will be a cinch, and it wont be long before you start to reveal a healthier, sexier, happier new you.

Great Technical Writing: The Two-edged Sword Of Reader Experience

Overview

When we write User Documents we rely on our Reader's/User's experience to simplify our work. This can cause problems for the Reader. This article will discuss the effects of Reader experience and how to minimize the negative effects of incompatible experience, and how to handle the writer's assumptions about the Reader.

Writer's Benefits: Relying on Reader Experience

When we write, we rely on our Reader's experience to give us a "starting point" for our User Document. Often we make hidden assumptions about our Reader's experience.

Here are some examples where relying on our Reader's experience makes things easy (and causes problems) for us as writers:

Example: Using a Computer's Mouse

In writing User Documentation for Graphical User Interface-based computer products (such as the Windows or Mac User interface), we assume that the the Reader knows how to use a mouse to click on items, drag, etc. This saves much background writing.

Example: Cooking: How to Measure Ingredients; Terms

Cook books save space by (usually correctly) assuming that a Reader can perform basic cooking operations (such as measuring ingredients), and terms (such as puree or slice).

Example: Common Acronyms

We rely on "common" acronyms such as AM and PM to simplify our writing lives. However, many Readers use a 24 hour clock, and thus AM and PM are meaningless to them.

Beware of any acronyms that you assume that your Reader knows. It is best to define acronyms in line (perhaps in parentheses) when they are first presented in that part of the User Document.

You cannot define them only the first time they appear in the User Document. This assumes -- incorrectly -- that Users read your User Document from start to finish.

Problems Writers Cause When Assuming User Experience

Our assumptions as writers can get us into trouble.

Example: Unfamiliar Words

Here's a gardening example: Acme's (a fictitious company) Illustrated Guide to Gardening in Canada (1979) makes an incorrect assumption about its Readers:

In one of their definitions they use a term, "the axil of a leaf" to define another term. "Axil of a leaf" is not listed in the books index, and there is no glossary in the book. Clearly this book assumes that the Reader understands the term "the axil of a leaf." I dont, and am therefore unhappy with the presentation.

Solution: Provide a glossary of gardening terms or a reference to a page in the book where the term is defined.

Example: Assuming Students' Experience

Here is an example where an (unstated) assumption by a training company rendered one of their courses useless.

In order to do the exercises in a computer programming course, students had to be able to use an editor (a simple word processor) to program the system. The only editor available on the course machines was a UNIX editor known as vi.

Unfortunately, the students were not told that they needed to use the vi editor. The course presenters assumed that the students knew vi. The students did not, and they spent half the course time trying to learn and deal with vi.

The hidden assumption by the training company resulted in a failed learning experience (the students never needed to use vi again). It wasted two days of the four-day course time.

Don't Present Assumptions in a Sneaky Way

If the training company had said that, "We train on UNIX systems," then they leave a way out for themselves when they disappoint students who do not know the vi editor. When confronted, the company could respond with, "We told you it was a UNIX system. You should know that vi is the editor available on that system."

This sneaky statement of the assumption is foolish. It will result in a lose-lose situation.

The Bottom Line

As writers, we to make assumptions about our Reader's experience. However, if you make assumptions, then make sure that you tell the Reader what you assume about him/her.

Think about the assumptions that you make about your Reader. Are these assumptions valid (that is, can you really expect your Readers to meet your assumptions)? If there is any doubt in your mind, include information explaining the terms and procedures that you assume.

Make sure that when you state assumptions, that you present them in a way that the Reader (student) can understand what the assumption means to them. Don't be sneaky about presenting the assumptions.

User Experience Can Cause Trouble for Writers

Your Reader's experience can cause confusion. Here are some examples:

Example: Shampoo/Conditioner Product

One of my favorite examples is a combined hair shampoo and conditioner product. If a User has experience with the separate products, then their experience is to:

* Shampoo: Wet thenhair. Massage shampoo into the hair, then rinse it out.
* Conditioner: Wash the hair. Massage conditioner into the wet hair, leave in the hair for two or three minutes, then rinse it out.

The problem arises with the combined product. Should the User leave the product in the hair for two or three minutes (as done with the conditioner), or rinse it immediately (as done with the shampoo)?

The User Document (product label) for a combined shampoo-conditioner should tell the User how to use the two-in-one product. Most such labels do not.

Example: Words Used in Unexpected Ways

Your writing can set the expectations of the Reader, resulting in confusion when words are used unexpectedly.

An article in the Technology Section (of a newspaper on June 10, 2004, page B14) described, "How the little guy can back up computer data". The article was about computers. When I came to the sentence: "Let's face it: backups are boring and a hassle to boot." I wondered about the phrase "to boot."

In computer jargon, "boot" is the process where the computer starts up ("lifts itself by its bootstraps"...by a program originally called a "bootstrap loader"). Does the author's quote about "hassle to boot" mean that if I do backups, then my computer will be slower ("boring") and require more work from me to start up ("hassle to boot")?

The use of the phrase "to boot" is inappropriate in this article, given that "to boot" has multiple meanings. The author used it as slang for "in addition to." Since the article was about computers, I thought of the computer meaning of "to boot." The sentence would be less confusing if the author left out "to boot," as: "Let's face it: backups are boring and a hassle." We'll return to this example shortly.

Example: Functional Fixedness

An object's function is fixed in a person's mind. For example, a hammer's function is to pound things. Experiments have demonstrated that people have a hard time using a hammer for an unusual function, such as a paperweight, a prop, or a lever. This is called functional fixedness.

Functional fixedness can limit the usefulness of your product. Your User Document should attempt to overcome functional fixedness. Perhaps this example will show how critical I am of User Documents.

I have a wrist global positioning satellite (GPS) device that keeps track of my long walks. Sweaters and heavy coats, needed for walking in the winter, make it difficult to wear the GPS device on the wrist. But it is a WRIST device. Functional fixedness arises, causing me struggle to use the GPS on my wrist. But it turns out that the GPS works well when used in a pocket.

The GPS User Document should mention this (obvious?) capability, thus reducing the functional fixedness associated with the WRIST GPS. In my defense: I am not sure that putting the wrist GPS in a pocket is more obvious than using a hammer as a paperweight.

Example: Humor

Humor relies on:

. a subtle knowledge of the language (for example a pun)
. or a knowledge of an event (perhaps a current event or entertainment event)

on which the humor is based. Here's an example, from an old joke:

"You're so funny, you should be on a stage. There's one leaving in 15 minutes."

This joke relies on the Reader's knowing the two meanings of "stage": (1) a place for performing, and (2) transportation used in the western United States in the 1800's. Most Readers might not know the second meaning, rendering the humor a confusing waste of words.

Earlier we examined the sentence: "Let's face it: backups are boring and a hassle to boot." The author used the phrase "to boot" as some form of folksy talk or humor. It confused the Reader.

Eliminate Humor from Your User Document

. Humor will only confuse Users who do not understand it.
. Humor is difficult, if not impossible, to translate into other languages.

I suggest that you use a writing style that is informal and conversational, but with no attempts at humor. Remove attempts at humor when you review and revise your writing.

If you want to write humor, do it elsewhere (you should be on a stage). User Documents are no place to practice your humor.

The Bottom Line

Assumptions

Be careful about what you assume about your Reader. When in doubt whether or not a Reader knows something:

. State your assumptions about your Reader
State the assumptions in a way that the Reader can relate to
. When in doubt, add the information that you assume, or
. Tell your Reader where to find the assumed information
By providing or pointing to this assumed information, you increase your audience

Readers' Experience

Be aware of how your Reader's experience influences how he/she interprets your User Document or uses your product. If necessary add material to your User Document to counter your Reader's incompatible experience.

All About Hospitalists and Why Companies Are Outsourcing Them

Today, there are organizations and companies that provide hospitalist physicians in hospitals all over the world in a contractual basis. This is because they are able to provide service to primary healthcare physicians who are regulars in the hospitals medical staff. This means that they will be responsible for outpatient and emergency room care patients if a member of the medical staff doesnt want the responsibility.

Another benefit that the hospital can take advantage of if they hire Hospitalists is that they will be able to move patients to the recovery process faster. Hospitals will now be able to do this without sacrificing the quality of hospital care. This means that it will eventually ease the frequent needs of the hospital on holding patients in the emergency department and also on the admission.

Hospitalist programs can eventually benefit the physicians, the hospital and the patient:

For physicians, it will enable regular healthcare physicians to concentrate in their medical practice. This will also allow them to improve their skills and it will also enable them to use their time more efficiently. The hospitalist system will eventually eliminate or at least decrease the on-call responsibility of primary healthcare physicians on patients who are not yet assigned to a physician, and it will also have reimbursement advantages.

Hospitals will also benefit from hospitalist programs. This is because it actually reduces the patients length of stay and the hospital costs to about 15%. This program will also decrease the number of admissions that are inappropriate and the number of days denied for managed care companies. A hospitalist program also provides satisfaction rating for the patient and the family and it also improves relationship between the physician and the patient.

For patients, studies have found that after being taken care of hospitalists, patients also prefers the hospitalist concept rather than wanting their own doctor to take care of them during their stay at the hospital. The hospitalist is always in the hospital and is readily available for the patients needs. They will be able to answer questions from both the families and the patients.

Think of hospitalists as outsourced physicians by a company. Hospitals now hire outsourced hospitalists in order to improve the quality of hospital care and to satisfy their in-house medical staff and also their patient. Having hospitalists in a hospital will ensure round-the-clock quality care for patient and at the same time, reduce the cost that a hospital may spend for patients.

They will be the ones who will admit, and take care of the patient on the duration of time they are admitted in the hospital. With hospitalists, you will never again wait for your doctor to take care of you. Care will always be there 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
